It occurred to me that this will probably be one of thousands of posts about Nanowrimo on WordPress today, but oh well.
Well, it’s that time of the year again: November, which for many means National Novel Writing Month. I have done it for the last six years but was debating not doing this year because of other writing and busyness. However, I’ve decided to do it anyway.
Thus, the amount of fiction I will be putting up here will be much less for the next month. I will still post three times a week with either true anecdotes from my life, reflections on writing, or whatever.
I’ve decided to write a full novel version of my story, The Girl Who Could Snee. That story was 1600 words and the novel will be at least 50,000 words, so the characters are going to be more developed and the plot will be quite different. I’ve got a rough sketch in my head and I’m excited.
Back when I was a young thing, I used to stay up until midnight every November 1st to get a jump on the writing. I told myself to be sensible this year, but “sensible” and “bedtime” are not two words that go together in my brain. I started writing at the stroke of midnight and…wrote 109 words before bailing and going to bed.
So, are you doing Nano? Are you tempted to? If you are doing it, let me know and we can be writing buddies on the Nanowrimo site.

Thanks, it should be fun. Do you have an inclination to write a novel? If you did, I’d read it.

Thanks! I don’t. I self edit too much. It would never get done. HaHa. Loved the new Aftermath chapters. The second one hit it out of the ballpark.

I don’t do NaNo, but I admire those of you who do. I wish you well. Love the cartoon, by the way.

Thanks, it seemed apt, although I’m pretty sure they don’t make Jolt cola anymore.

Haha–yeah, I think that one’s disappeared. Unfortunately, there are worse “energy drinks” in its place.

I think future generations will look back on energy drinks with the same disbelief we look back on the quack medicine tonics of the turn of the century (unless the movie Idiocracy is correct, and then that’s all we’ll drink).

Ah, Nanowrimo, how I long to participate in thee. Alas, my two pint-sizes will not allow it. Have fun!!

Yeah, children took up a lot of the time otherwise used for writing. Still, given the choice, I’d take the children.

Gives me motivation for a story I was thinking about writing.

Sweet. Let me know if you ever want to do another writing challenge.

all the best david! i am not joining Nano, but a lot of my friends are joining it.
i loved that story a lot, its a sweet story. you are planning to make a novel out of it? i will be very curious about that, will you share it with us or save it for publishers?
thanks for not deserting us! three a week will do for a month but after that you will have to compensate 🙂
have fun!

Got it. I’ll try to keep people from wandering away. I plan to write a few short stories over the month, since it’s not that hard to keep up with Nano (after all, I’m browsing WordPress now instead of writing 🙂 ) Not sure what I’ll do with the novel. I’ll see how it turns out.~

you have chosen a tough one i believe. that story is amazing but making a novel out of it will be a challenging job but thats where the fun is!
a friend of mine recently convinced me into writing long poems 🙂 he was hoping i will go above thirty lines but i sliced it down to twenty. the habit of writing long poems is gone, good that he made me do it. 🙂

Have fun with it. Be sure to post what you write 🙂
November 2nd, 2012 at 7:23 pm
i will have to post them, in mydomainpvt, right now i am trying to oil my frozen machinery, its a bit rusty after trying shorter and shorter poems for almost a year or two. 🙂
November 2nd, 2012 at 7:27 pm
Yeah, I know what you mean. I’ve been used to writing very short stories for the last few months, I’m having to stretch my noveling muscles again. 🙂
November 2nd, 2012 at 7:28 pm
as you must have noticed i was going shorter and shorter- the extreme was 7S i believe, i have already written four poems, ranging from 20 to 40 lines, will write a few more and then blog first few to make him happy 🙂

I’m doing NaNo, sort of, ha! I’ve got two little ones and I’ll be writing at quiet time and after their bedtime, we’ll see how far I get. At least I will be further on my WIP then I am now.
I’m j2starshine. What’s yours?
by the way, I think your blog set up is awesome with the Green Tower theme, daylight, dusk, midnight. Very cool. Happy writing!

Thanks! I’m glad you came by. Nano would be a lot harder with small children so I hope the month goes well for you. My ID on the site is Eternal Foreigner. I’ll add you. 🙂
